
How many people saw the most recent Marvel movie v. this year's Sundance winner?
A lot to a (relative little), right?
That’s because Marvel has a clear, easy-to-follow story formula and the masses LOVE formulas.
Just like in the box office, people with a defined formula for sales (that they stick to) outpace the folks that are doing something “new and different” every time.
To be clear, this isn't me critiquing indie films or big blockbusters. This is me pointing out the lessons from their differing approaches.
Artists have an excellent reason to push boundaries and try new things. Business owners who are trying to sell products/services do not.
Your sales process is not the mission of your business. It is not the impact that you bring to the world.
If you want to be creative, be like Sundance in your offering and customer experience, but always be like Marvel in your sales.
