Tips for not-pushy sales follow up

I see a lack of follow up so consistently with small business owners because folks are nervous they’re becoming a pest.

 

I want to give you license to be more persistent in follow up.

 

Here are the signs for when you actually take follow up too far. 

 

If you don’t hit these, you’re golden.

 

  • Signal 1: When you're no longer speaking to an urgent pain point.

    •  It's okay to battle objections and try to uncover urgency. If you've done that, and they still aren't biting, your job is done. Not everyone is for you and you're wasting everyone’s time if you don’t move on.

       

  • Signal 2: When you're getting the same objection over and over again.

    • Objections should change each time you get one. If they have to keep repeating themselves, then you aren’t overcoming the objection and you’re just having a weird argument. It’s time to walk away.

       

  • Signal 3: They reject all of your alternate next steps. 

    • It's smart when battling objections to have multiple asks with varying degrees of commitment for the prospect. If you've exhausted your list, and they’ve said no to everything. There’s no business to be done. Find someone else who’s interested -that person is out there!

Like I said, most of us are nowhere near the line of badering prospects. If you ever get nervous that you’re becoming a pest, ask yourself:

 

❓ Am I still speaking to an urgent pain point?

❓ Am I (actually) overcoming objections, rather than just hearing the same one on repeat?

❓ Are they open to any alternate next steps?

 

If the answer is yes, keep following up!

 It might feel a little weird at first, but consistent follow up will change your business -I promise. Follow these tips and you'll be seen as persistent, consistent and professional but never pushy!
