Receiving an email from you is not going to ruin anyone's day. Not following up with prospects will absolutely ruin your pipeline.

Why do most business owners not follow up on leads?

Because they are afraid of coming off as "pushy" and turning off prospects.

Use these tips below for a persistent (non-pushy) follow-up strategy.

Center the prospect in your outreach.

Connect everything you share to something they've said was important to them.

Fill in the blanks of this script below for a 5-star email:

TEMPLATE: "You mentioned X being important to you so I wanted to share Y. I saw Z connection between X and Y and thought you'd find it interesting.

Proactively tell leads how you will follow up and why

Tell them that you do persistent follow up to move conversations forward, but they can opt out whenever they want. You can't be seen as pushy if you tell them how you plan to follow up and they say "Ok".

Steal this line: "If this ever doesn't feel like a good fit, just let me know. If I don't hear you say "never mind" I'm going to assume you still need help and I'll keep following up. Sound fair?"

 Differentiate your asks and offers

You don't have to ONLY talk about the purchase and you don't ONLY have to ask to get them on a call.

Mix up your asks and your offers to make the correspondence feel more natural. Here are other offers/asks you can send/discuss to keep the conversation going

Because they are afraid of coming off as "pushy" and turning off prospects.

Asks:

  • Get their thoughts on an update/insight you've sent

  • Gather insights into where they are in their buying journey.

    • "Is the project we've been discussing still a priority?"

    • "Many clients need X in place to be prepared for a project like what we discussed. Is that in place at your organization?"

  • No ask! It's ok to just send something interesting and let them do what they will with it.

Offers

  • Industry insights

  • Resources relevant to a top challenge they have

  • Updates on your business

    • New features

    • New services

    • New testimonials

  • Updates on their business

    • Comment and offer congratulations on recent news

It might feel a little weird at first, but consistent follow up will change your business -I promise. Follow these tips and you'll be seen as persistent, consistent and professional but never pushy!
